When setting out to build your business, many advisors will tell you to set your goals, create a plan, develop a framework and take action – otherwise known as executing your plan. Although this is excellent advice, in this article I offer some additional aspects to consider while growing a successful business. Your Mindset, Skillset, Resources and Actions
Mindset comes before everything else. The way you think about a situation and the beliefs behind those thoughts will have a major impact on what you decide to do in your business.
If your mindset is one of skepticism, worry or doubt then the actions you take will reflect that. If, on the other hand, your mindset shows optimism, clarity and certainty, then you will propel yourself into positive action.
“I’ve never known a person who was successful that didn’t at first establish a mindset of success. You can’t be that which you can’t believe.” – Byron Pulsifer
To achieve your goals or ambitions you will need a certain set of skills. These can be your unique gifts that you bring to the world and also the practical skills required to build a business.
When you started your business you had a talent that you wanted to share. You owe it to yourself and the people you serve to be the best you can be at delivering that talent. Learn, grow and expand your abilities.
When looking at the business side of things, you also need certain skills. Most coaches, healers and service providers do not have a background in business or marketing, yet knowledge in these areas is vital.
Expand your knowledge base and then decide what skills you actually require and what you can outsource.
“Build your skills, not your resume.” Sheryl Sandberg
All businesses need resources in order to perform. These are often thought of as finance and operating equipment but there are a wide range of resources required to operate and grow your business.
Resources include the money to maintain your business, an expert to offer advice or to execute specialist tasks and information to solve specific problems that arise.
Other resources that we often overlook are more personal. Our emotional and spiritual resources. We can boost these resources in many ways, one of which is through the support of our peers and colleagues. Having a community of like-minded people who can offer advice, support and new ideas is a priceless resource.
"Women are the world's most underused resource." - Hillary Clinton
Having vision, goals and an excellent plan is one thing. Taking action is another.
When you create your positive, growth mindset, empower yourself with the skills you need, and gather all your personal and external resources, you need just one more thing. To take action. And not just any action. Specific, measurable and replicable action.
Determine your most profitable and meaningful actions and establish a habit of delivering those actions.
“In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It’s not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.” Tony Robbins.
In conclusion, we are what we think, believe, utilize and do. You create your own world and you create your business. Decide what it is you want then employ the most appropriate mindset, resources and actions to achieve the results you desire.
